BERTBrain software

Device-level energy monitoring and control, in one place

BERTBrain organizes every BERT controller in your portfolio, runs the schedules that switch idle equipment off, and reports the energy and savings behind every decision - from a single outlet to an entire campus.

See the savings, not just the settings

The savings report compares measured consumption with an expected baseline for the same period, then breaks results down by building, group or device.

What BERTBrain does

BERTBrain is plug load management software built around measured data. Every controller reports the load it serves, so schedules, reports and savings all start from the same numbers.

Name and locate every device

Assign each Smart Plug and hardwired controller a meaningful name and physical location - campus, building, floor, room, zone or workstation - so anyone on your team can find and manage an individual outlet without a separate floor plan or spreadsheet.

Group the way you operate

Build groups by location, by device type (computers, displays, printers, AV, lab equipment or your own categories) and by department, tenant, cost center or project. Groups can overlap, so the same device can sit in a building schedule and a department report.

Schedule devices and groups

Daily, weekly or custom recurring schedules for a single device or a whole campus. Adjust for holidays, seasons and special events. Threshold and temperature logic is available where the equipment calls for it.

Report, benchmark and quantify savings

Consumption reporting by day, week, month, year or a custom period for any device or group. Savings analysis compares kWh and cost against a before-control baseline, and benchmarking compares buildings, floors, departments or device classes to surface outliers.

Watch system health

BERTBrain continuously monitors device connectivity, control response and communications, and flags issues before they create gaps in control. Real-time alerts are available in cloud deployments.

Keep working offline

Schedules and essential settings live on each controller, so approved control continues if the internet or network connection drops. Data synchronizes when communications return.

Reporting that stands up to review

Plug load savings have to be defensible - to a facilities director, a utility program or an ESCO's measurement and verification team. BERTBrain records a pre-control baseline for each controlled device and keeps measuring after schedules begin, so reported savings trace back to metered data.

  • Device-level measurement, accurate to ±3%
  • Before/after baselines at the device and group level
  • Export-ready reports for utility incentive and ESCO review
  • Unlimited server-side data storage

Planning ranges, not promises

BERT customers typically see up to a 50% reduction in energy use on the devices BERTBrain controls, by switching them off when they are not needed. Results vary with equipment, schedules and occupancy, which is why every project is baselined and measured.

Built for the people who run buildings

Facility and energy managers

One view of every controlled device, schedule and savings result across buildings, without touching the BAS.

IT teams

An owner-approved network architecture, role-based access with SSO, outbound-only internet connections from the gateway and a choice of cloud or on-premises hosting.

ESCOs and partners

Measured baselines and savings reporting across a customer's portfolio, for project development and measurement and verification.

BERTBrain questions

Where does BERTBrain run?

BERTBrain runs on the BERT Edge Gateway and can be deployed cloud-connected or on-premises, as approved for each project. Users reach it through a web browser over HTTPS.

Who can use BERTBrain?

Authorized facilities, energy, IT, customer, ESCO and partner personnel can use BERTBrain directly, with role-based access. They do not need building automation system programming privileges.

What happens to schedules if the network goes down?

Approved schedules and essential settings are stored at each controller, so control continues when cloud or network connectivity is unavailable. Each controller also keeps a 14-day rolling log of measurement data.

Does BERTBrain work with our building automation system?

BERTBrain normally runs standalone. Optional BACnet/IP integration through BERT Connect, or REST integration, is available when separately scoped for a project.
